Aft Seat & Storage

The aft seat & storage will consist of a large storage compartment with 2 hatches for access and a captains chair mounted in the center. The storage box is constructed from spanish cedar support boards and ½" marine ply’s attached to horizontal and vertical ribs.

After epoxy coating all the pieces, and priming the exterior pieces the spanish cedar boards and ply’s are attached to horizontal and vertical ribs with epoxy and annular nails.

All nail holes are filled with fairing filler. The front and rear of the storage area will be finished to match the interior.

6/4 spanish cedar boards will be edge glued with biscuit reinforcement to created the storage area top and hatches. The seat in the picture will be mounted on the center of the storage area as the captains chair.

6/4 spanish cedar boards glued and clamped with a box on top for weight to keep it flat while clamping pressure is applied.

The edge glued boards are cut into 3 sections, 2 - 18" hatches and 1 - 20" section where the captains chair will be mounted. Each piece is finished with 4 coats of epoxy for a moisture barrier and 6 - 10 coats of varnish for UV protection and to make it look good too.

The 3 sections of edge glued boards are finished and attached to the painted aft seat box. The center section is stationary and the port and starboard pieces are installed with stainless steel piano hinges in the rear and will lift for access to the storage area.

A seat mounting plate which accepts a seat mounted on a rotating post is installed in the center section.

The seat (Captains' chair) rotates 360°, folds down and is removable.

The 2 outside pieces of the aft seat box are cut, finished and fit into place. If you will be storing electronics and or a battery for the starter and lights, make sure you run your wiring or make notches for the wires before attaching these pieces.
